Reenacting a Kabbalistic ritual performed in advance of Yom Kippur, the work centers on the practice of shaking the dust from one’s tzitzit, the ritual fringes worn on Jewish garments, over a body of water as a gesture of release and atonement. In this iteration, My Golem’s tzitzit extend to twenty-five feet, scaled to invite collective participation as multiple bodies gather to shake them out together. Performing as My Golem, Weitz led a ritual service in collaboration with Rabbi Zach Fredman at The New Shul in New York City, and later restaged the work for an intimate gathering at Debs Park in Los Angeles.
